no picture on 30" cinema display (DVI)

I've connected up the display to my MacBook Pro, and it is recognised and appears in the Displays System Preferences tab, but I'm getting no picture on the screen. It's connected through the Apple DVI-D Dual Link to mini DisplayPort adapter which works with other displays and doesn't seem to be the problem. I've tried connecting it to a Mac Pro, directly into the DVI port, but same result. It's recognised but no picture. I've tried a different power block, different cable, various combinations with the USB cable and Firewire cable plugged out, but no luck.

Any thoughts?
